Thinking about buying in one of Ontario’s Neighbourhoods?

North York, formerly a township and city, is now one of the six administrative districts of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is situated in the northern region of Toronto, with its center being Yonge Street, north of Ontario Highway 401. Steeles Avenue marks its northern boundary, while the Humber River and Victoria Park Avenue border it on the west and east respectively. Its southern boundary aligns with the northern borders of the former municipalities of Toronto: York, Old Toronto, and East York. As of the 2016 Census, North York has a population of 644,685.

Established in 1922, North York was carved out of the northern portion of the former township of York, which was located along the western edge of Old Toronto. After being incorporated into Metropolitan in 1953, it experienced rapid growth as it was close to Old Toronto. It was designated as a borough in 1967 and gained city status in 1979. This led to the development of high-density residential areas, efficient transportation systems, and the establishment of numerous corporate headquarters in North York City Centre, its central business district. In 1998, North York ceased to exist as an independent city and became part of the amalgamated city of Toronto. Since then, it has served as a secondary economic hub outside of Downtown Toronto.
